1 About Journal

MARINE GEOLOGY & QUATERNARY GEOLOGY lauched in 1981 is a bimonthly academic journal sponsored by Qingdao Institute of Marine Geology, China Geological Survey, and published by the Science Press, China. The journal aims to publishing original, cutting-edge, and explorative scientific results in the field of marine geology and Quaternary geology, with priority to the latest research achievements in China seas, global ocean and three poles, and the comparative study results between offshore and land, regional and global scientific issues. The main columns include sedimentation and environment, geochemistry and geophysics, paleooceanography and chronology, petroleum and mineral resources, Quaternary geology, commentary and reviews, technical methods, IODP newsletters, etc.

MARINE GEOLOGY & QUATERNARY GEOLOGY is an outstanding peer reviewed journal. According to the ʺAnnual Report (2018) on the Impact Factor of Chinese Academic Journals (Volume 16)ʺ, the compound impact factor of ʺMarine Geology and Quaternary Geologyʺ is 0.888, ranking third among 28 academic journals of marine sciences.

2. Guide for authors

Marine Geology and Quaternary Geology is an academic journal sponsored by the Qingdao Institute of Marine Geology under the auspices of Ministry of Natural Resources, and published by the Science Press. The journal policy is to adhere to ʺinnovation, frontier and systematicnessʺ of publication, and adhere to the principle of "letting a hundred flowers blossom and a hundred schools of thought contend". Depending on marine geologists, geological process in the coastal and offshore areas shall be explored, basic theoretical research shall be advanced in-depth and geoscience development shall be comprehensively promoted. Through reporting outstanding research achievements, the growth of young talents of marine geologyt will be promoted.

The journal aims to publishing original, cutting-edge, and explorative scientific results in the field of marine geology and Quaternary geology, with priority to the latest research achievements in China seas, global ocean and three poles, and the comparative study results between offshore and land, regional and global scientific issues. The main columns include sedimentation and environment, geochemistry and geophysics, paleooceanography and chronology, petroleum and mineral resources, Quaternary geology, commentary and reviews, technical methods, IODP newsletters, etc.

Papers in this journal are usually published in order of time. For innovative and frontier research achievements and organized manuscripts (a special issue), priority will be given for publishing.

Copyright of manuscripts: beyond that stipulated in the Copyright Law, it belongs to the author, who is responsible for the articles. Once manuscripts are accepted, the copyright of various editions will be transferred from authors to this journal. Authors who disagree with the publication of electronic editions (CD-ROM edition and web edition), please indicate in the manuscript.

Requirements and precautions for submission are as follows:

(1) Manuscripts must be submitted through the editing platform of ʺ Marine Geology & Quaternary Geologyʺ:http://hydz.chinajournal.net.cn/. Authors are strictly forbidden to confedential information leaks.The same manscript should not be submitted to one more journal concurrently. Authors would take all the consequences if they violate any of the above provisions.

(2) English manuscripts from foreign countries or international cooperation research project are acceptable. The requirements for English manuscripts are the same as those for Chinese ones. In the manuscript, Chinese titles, author names and affiliations,  detailed Chinese abstracts and keywords should be included.

(3) The processing results of manuscripts can be inquired in 6 months. If authors have not receive acceptance announcement after 6 month, manuscripts can be submitted to other journals.

(4) In accordance with  the Copyright Law, manuscripts can be edited by editors or reviewers, but correction of substantive content should consult authors for permission.

(5) Remuneration and three (3) paper offprints will be offered to authors when manuscripts are published.

(6) Manuscripts are required to have novel topics, reliable data, striking arguments, concise description and clear hierarchy.

(7) Author should confine the manuscript length to ~ 8000 characters (6-10 printed pages). The main contents of manuscripts in order are as followings: title, author names and affiliations, abstract, key words, Chinese graphic classification number, body text (mainly consisting of introduction, materials and methods, results and discussion, conclusion), acknowledgement, references, english abstract and additional instructions. If the format of manuscripts does not meet the above requirements, the papers will be returned to authors for revision before submitting.

(8) Authorship should be limited to those who have made such substantive contributions. A brief introduction (name, birth year, sex, education degree, professional title, research fields or interests, contact information) of the first author should be provided. Those who have participated in certain substantive aspects of the research project should be acknowledged (acknowledgement section).

(9) For research projects sponsored by the National(Provincial) Science Fund, please indicate the name and project number of the funds in the manuscript.

(10) The title should not exceed 20 Chinese characters, and subheadings can be used when necessary. The body text should be clearly divided into 2 or 3 levels through defined and numbered sections. The first level headings should be numbered (1,2,3...), and then subsections (1.1,1.2,1.3....), etc.The headings should be written flush.

(11) The abstract should briefly state the purposes of the research, methods, main results and conclusions, and highlights innovative achievements, but without subjective evaluation terms.The length of English abstract can be confined to be one printed page. The number of key words ranging from 5 to 8 is preferable.

(12) Scientific and technological terms and terminology, translations of names and place names in manuscripts shall be used in accordance with the provisions of the national standards, and measurement units must use the legal measurement units of China. Punctuation should be used accurately.

(13) The experimental and testing data should indicate additional information including experiment operator, experimental method, experimental instrument and equipment, experimental conditions, data accuracy and error range, etc. The original data supported key arguments of the paper should be attached.  

(14) Artworks should be of high pertinence. The illustrations should mentioned in text should be earlier than presence of drawings, and closely arranged with related drawings. Generally, the size of drawings not wider than 8 cm in two-column layout , and not wider than 17 cm in one-column layout. The lines of the appended drawings shall be uniformly thick and well defined, with a width of 0.5-0.6 mm. The captions of the drawings should use character of Song typeface, or Fangsong or script but not boldface. Illustrations should be consistent with the annotations and expressions in bodytext. The captions are written in Chinese and English and placed below the drawings. Legends should be numbered and placed below the captions. All maps involving national boundaries must be drawn strictly in accordance with the latest edition of the Map Publishing House of the People's Republic of China. Three-line tables are recomended, and captions shall be above tables. 

(15) The previously published works, especially research achievements during the last 5 years, should be acknowledged in the manuscript. Related publications should always be cited in the text, and also present in the reference list, and . References shall be numbered according to cited order in the text, Chinese references need to be translated into corresponding English. In the references, the spellings of author’s name should be surname (full-spelling) written before first name (only capital initial) , without abbreviations full stop. Reference types are present alphabetically, for example journal articles [J], Monographs [M], theses [C], dissertations [D], reports [R], and others [Z].

Journal:[order number] Authors (listed 3 authors at most, or add ʹet alʹ, comma used between authors). Paper title [J]. Journal name, Published year, Volume (Issue): first and last page numbers of the paper.

Monograph: [order number] Authors name. Title [M]. Version (first edition not catalogued). Publishing place: publisher, publishing year: first and last page numbers of the monograph.

Collection: [order number] Collection Authors. Title [C]//Editor. Collection Title. Publication Place: Publisher, Year of Publication: first and last page numbers of the collection.

(16) Upon receipt of the acceptance announcement and revision suggestions, the author should timely upload the revised manuscript and clear-drawn illustrations online. Vector images should be in the original drawing format and raster image format, and the resolution of all raster images is recommended to be 600 dpi.

(17) Authors should carefully process proofreading the proofprintings, and return correction opinions to editors in time. Except typesetting errors, usually the text should not be changed again.

4 Publication ethics

All participant in the writing of papers and in the publication of academic journals should abide by widely accepted ethics and standard of conduct.The Journal ʹMarine Geology & Quaternary Geologyʹ has formulated the following publishing ethics guidelines in light of its own actual situation. The editors, authors and reviewers of this journal should follow these guidelines to ensure the originality, scientificity, innovation and practicability of the articles.

4.1  Responsibility of reviewers

Reviewers include editors-in-chief, executive editors-in-chief and reviewers.

4.1.1  Reviewers should maintain academic integrity, and not be influenced by acquaintances to lower academic and ethical standards.

4.1.2  Reviewers should confirm that author cites previously published papers in the manuscript, and that previously published experimental-observation data, process reasoning or demonstrations used in this manuscript has listed the sources of citation.

4.1.3  If reviewers finds that there are some problems in the article, such as wrong opinions,  knowledge errors, serious duplication and suspected forgery of data, they should give timely feedback to the editorial department. If plagiarism or manuscript multi-submission is found, editors should also be informed immediately.

4.1.4  Reviewers should make suggestions and opinions on the correctness of the content in the manuscript. The reviewer’s comments and opinions should be clear, reasonable and full of arguments.

4.1.5  The peer review parties shall keep the contents of the reviewing manuscripts confidential, and shall not disclose the information of the reviewing manuscripts to the public.

4.1.6  If you are not competent or unable to review the manuscript in time, please inform the editorial department in time. Then the draft can be sent to other reviewers.

4.2  Responsibility of editors

4.2.1  Editors shall accept articles in accordance with the Editorial Board and relevant regulations, and shall make the decision after consultation with other editors or reviewers. Editors should not be influenced by interests to reject or accept articles.

4.2.2  The editorial department should maintain academic integrity, and call to acount the academic misconduct of all parties concerned in the manuscript.

4.2.3  Editors should abide by the system of confidentiality. Except relevant authors and reviewers, editors should not disclose information of submitted papers to others.

4.2.4  Through evaluation of appropriate software, editors must ensure the originality of each manuscript. Manuscripts shall be forwarded to two reviewers for peer review blindly.

4.2.5  If inaccurate descriptions are found in published papers, editors shall be obliged to publish the ʹCorrigendum Formʹ in time.

4.3  Responsibility of authors

4.3.1  Authors who report on original research must give a detailed description of their work, and potential data should also be presented in the manuscript. Manuscripts should provide enough details and instances to enable others to repeat the work.

4.3.2  Authors should ensure authenticity of their research work, and avoid plagiarism. Authors should fully participate in the research work. All previously published research work used in manuscripts should always be cited.

4.3.3  Authors shall not submit one manuscript to more than one journal at the same time, nor shall they publish the manuscript describing the same research content in more than one journals. That is to say, one manuscript multi-submission or concurrent publication is prohibited.

4.3.4  Manuscripts provided by authors shall meet the relevant requirements in the "Guide for Author" of this journal.

4.3.5  All funding projects during the research work should be acknowleged and annotated in the manuscript.

4.3.6  Authorship should be limited to those who have made contributions to the research work, and significant contributors should be listed as co-authors or corresponding author. Those who have participated in certain substantive aspects of the research project should be acknowledged or listed as contributors, and no unreasonable authorship can be added at will. All authors should have read and agreed to the publication of the final revised manuscript.

4.3.7  If it is found that there are significant errors or inaccurate descriptions in the published articles, authors are obliged to inform the editorial department in time and withdraw the manuscripts.

4.4  Responsibility of Publishers

Once a manuscript is suspected of academic misconduct, fraudulent publication and plagiarism, it is obligation of the publisher to closely cooperate with the editorial department, to take all appropriate measures to clarify the situation. The publisher is obligated to withdraw the papers or make a statement of correctness, in order to minimize the harmful influence.

1 About Journal

"Marine Geological Frontier" (formerly known as "Marine Geological Letters") launched in 1982, is a monthly academic journal of marine geosciences. It is hosted by the Qingdao Institute of Marine Geology, China Geological Survey, MNR and published by the Science Press. The Journal mainly publishes research achievements in the field of marine geology, marine hydrocarbon resources, marine solid mineral resources, marine geophysics, marine geochemistry, marine environment geology, marine geohazards and others, as well as information of important academic activities and exchanges and communication in marine geology.

 This Journal is characterized by reporting rich scientific and technological information timely. The journal columns currently consist of reviews, research articles and short (rapid) communications, in order to publish ʹsystematic researchʹ, ʹimportant achievementsʹ and ʹ recent advanceʹ respectively.

2.1  Submission requirements

2.1.1 Manuscripts (Special Research, Commentary, Reviews, etc.) should meet the requirements of the journal's direction and format.: distinct topics, sufficient arguments, reliable data, precise and clear structure, sound language, and intuisive illustration. The length of the manuscript generally should be no more than 8000 words (7-10 printed pages) .

2.1.2  The length for newsletters on recent advance of Marine Geology, and rapid communications about geological survey achievement, generally should be no more than 3000 words (2 printed pages).

2.1.3  Manuscripts are strictly forbidden to confedential information leaks, fraud and plagiarism, and the journal reserve the right to delete and technically modify the manuscripts.

2.1.4 All manuscripts must be submitted through the editing platform of ʺ Marine Geological  Frontierʺ:http://hydt.cbpt.cnki.net/, and offline submissions are not acceptable.

2.1.5  Manuscripts must submitted to no more than one journals, and this journal will not return submitted manuscripts to authors.The processing results can be inquired in 3 months. If not accepted, the author can chose to submit to other journals.

4.3.1  Authors who report on original research must give a detailed description of their work, and potential data should also be presented in the manuscript. Manuscripts should provide enough details and instances to enable others to repeat the work.

4.3.2  Authors should ensure authenticity of their research work, and avoid plagiarism. Authors should fully participate in the research work. All previously published research work used in manuscripts should always be cited.

4.3.3  Authors shall not submit one manuscript to more than one journal at the same time, nor shall they publish the manuscript describing the same research content in more than one journals. That is to say, one manuscript multi-submission or concurrent publication is prohibited.

4.3.4  Manuscripts provided by authors shall meet the relevant requirements in the "Guide for Author" of this journal.

4.3.5  All funding projects during the research work should be acknowleged and annotated in the manuscript.

4.3.6  Authorship should be limited to those who have made contributions to the research work, and significant contributors should be listed as co-authors or corresponding author. Those who have participated in certain substantive aspects of the research project should be acknowledged or listed as contributors, and no unreasonable authorship can be added at will. All authors should have read and agreed to the publication of the final revised manuscript.

4.3.7  If it is found that there are significant errors or inaccurate descriptions in the published articles, authors are obliged to inform the editorial department in time and withdraw the manuscripts.

4.4  Responsibility of Publishers

Once a manuscript is suspected of academic misconduct, fraudulent publication and plagiarism, it is obligation of the publisher to closely cooperate with the editorial department, to take all appropriate measures to clarify the situation. The publisher is obligated to withdraw the papers or make a statement of correctness, in order to minimize the harmful influence.
